Substituting barley for rice in stuffed peppers?
Mrs E asked:
I usually use rice in my stuffed peppers but I’m thinking of substituting barley. Would I use the same amount?
Yup, I mix up the mixture first before stuffing and baking the peppers. Just wasted sure if barley would expand or absorb in the meat mixture the same as rice does. Thanks all.

What other foods go well with stuffed peppers?
Sarah asked:
I plan on cooking dinner for my boyfriend on his birthday this month, and he requested stuffed peppers. Now, I’m not the most experienced cook in the world, but usually everything I cook turns out very well, so I’m willing to undertake the pepper challenge. My question is what else should I serve with the peppers? I was thinking rice, but that seems boring. Any ideas?

By the way, I’ll be stuffing the peppers with ground beef as the main ingredient.

enjoys asked:
I made a chicken vegetable soup w/Rotelle Tomatoes w/chili peppers plus regular diced tomatoes. It’s way too spicy and I’d like to take the “bite” out of it somehow.

I’ve tried the over the flame method and peeled them and also tried grilling them to peel them. What if I made them without peeling them? Say boil them as you would for plain green pepper stuffed peppers?

What can she substitute for hot peppers?
forthehorde724 asked:
I want to give my friend a recipe for this soup from the Extreme Soup Diet (NOT the Cabbage Soup Diet!) and a big part of what makes the soup work is hot peppers. However, she is allergic to ALL peppers (red, green, jalapeno, chili, etc). Is there a substitute she can use to spice up the soup?

Where can I get Scotch Bonnet peppers?
snwbrdr960 asked:
I need some peppers for jerk chicken. In the milwaukee area? If not, Chicago/northern illinois area? Not looking for habaneros. Got the pimento sticks, wood chips, leaves and berries-going for authenticity. Not in sauce or dried form-need the actual peppers. Anywhere to get them online?
No, scotch bonnets and habaneros are NOT the same. Like I said, going for authenticity. Not just looking for spice out of the peppers, looking for the added flavor they bring as well.

Can somebody explain why peppers are only hot after you cook them?
Chris S asked:
Why are peppers only hot after you cook them? What’s the science behind it? Can anybody explain?
If Peppers are hot before you cook then also, then that just extends my question.

Jalepenos are not hot before you cook them, but are afterwards I know, but so there are also peppers that are hot before you cook them?
Why are some peppers hot before you cook them and some not? For the one’s that are not hot before, my first question still stands.
