Discover Your Coaching Niche and Watch Your Income Grow

Anne Marshall asked:

Have you noticed how many coaches there are around these days? As coaching has become more widely known in recent years, there seems to have been an explosion of Life Coaches, but how many are really earning a good living from what they do? The answer sadly, is not many.

One of the main reasons for this seems to be that there are so many people offering a offering similar packages of a generalist nature, which makes it difficult for prospective clients to really know how to choose one from another.

Yet there are many highly successful Coaches, so what are they doing differently? The true answer to this question is probably complex but the most successful Coaches I know all do the same simple thing; they specialize! They have found their niche, they stick to it, become an expert, and then they become wealthy. In fact it’s been suggested that those who specialize earn on average 2-5 times more than those who do not.

For many practitioners, finding a niche is a natural progression from previous career experience. For example in my own case, as a former Midwife, my particular passion and area of expertise is as a Maternity Coach. For others though, one of the appeals of coaching is the chance to make a fresh start and leave previous work experience in the past.

Whatever your background, it’s likely that you will still be able to translate your passion and enthusiasm into a recognizable niche that will help you attract more respect and income, even if it takes some initial research to get yourself established.

Here are just a few tips to set you on your way if you haven’t yet found your niche.

1. Consider what really motivates and excites you, ask yourself, “if I could chose, who would be my ideal clients” Use your answers to guide you in clarifying your own work values. What is it that you want to give as well as receive by being a Coach?

2. Be selective and focused in your marketing. Trying to get a general message out to everyone can be exhausting and may mean that you end up working very hard for very little.

3. Become an expert in the challenges and solutions of your target market, not because you wish to become a consultant or mentor but so that your clients can recognize you as being someone who understands their needs.

4. Make a commitment to stay focused and then make a business plan. This way you can make every single marketing hour count by targeting a specific market that will already be receptive to your message and looking for solutions.

5. Finally, value yourself for the special service you are providing. After all when you specialize you deserve to be paid more.

Remember, the smaller or more specialized the marketplace, the easier it will be to attract your prospective clients attention. Having a niche also lends itself to developing a distinctive brand for your company, to gaining greater respect from your colleagues and to recognition as an expert within your specialty. Think about the benefits!

Preoccupy Your Gremlin and Get "Unstuck"

Mary Lee Gannon asked:

Most people have hopes and dreams. Most people understand what it will take to get to those dreams. And most people at some point in their lives accept that they probably won’t get there and give up hope. Why? Because they can’t seem to get the issues that haunt them out of the way. The pain of first uncovering the demons, facing them and then knowing how to tame them seems impossible. But there is a way.

Throughout our lives we begin to notice that certain negative behaviors tend to repeat themselves – career choices that aren’t fulfilling, bad choices in romance, reactive and defensive behavior when being criticized, lack of solid friendships, disinterest in things that should matter. We notice a pattern in how people describe us: controlling, stubborn, under-performing, difficult, cold, inconsiderate, self-absorbed, irresponsible. Nobody grows up and wants to become these things. And nobody really wants to admit that they act this way. So we justify our behavior as simply other people’s misinterpretations, insensitivity or jealousy. But the truth is that when enough people repeatedly give us the same feedback whether it be direct or indirect, we have to take a look at our own behavior. It can’t always be someone else’s interpretation.
Most people who are at a juncture in their lives where they want to move forward but aren’t able to don’t understand why they just can’t seem to do what needs to be done. Certain emotions when conjured up bring about a habitual reaction that may be rooted in the past. I’ve coached many people with the same issue from CEOs to people in transition. Intellectually they know pretty well what they need to do. They can articulate fairly clearly their “to-do” list and yet the important things don’t seem to get “to-done.”

Sometimes the lack of productiveness is because the “to-do” list is out of alignment with their values and focusing on the end result might bring them closer to their values as opposed to the tasks to get there. Sometimes once they define their values they see that what they thought they needed to focus on is not going to bring them closer to fulfillment after all and that they begin to re-examine their goals.

Oftentimes, however, there is a voice in just about everybody’s head that is repeating a limiting conviction whereby you practice failure in your mind before it even happens. “You’re too old.” “You’re too young.” “You don’t have enough experience.” “You have too much experience.” “You’re not attractive.” “Don’t fall in love – you always get hurt.” “Don’t try that, it’s too risky and you will fail just like last time.” “You’ll never be able to do that.” “Nobody works hard anymore.” “I’m picky because I deserve better.” An undetected and reconciled gremlin can manifest itself in physical symptoms such as asthma, ulcers, headaches, backaches, neuroses and more.

What is the gremlin in your head telling you? How does it inhibit your ability to get what you want? Are you willing to stare it in the face? What does it look like? Draw it on paper. Hang it where you can see it so that you may get comfortable with it. You can’t expect to rid your life of your gremlin entirely. It is too comfortable with you and you with it. But if you can give it something to do, you might just be able to move around it in a positive direction while it’s pre-occupied.

How to Preoccupy Your Gremlin

The next time you have a goal in mind and your gremlin peppers you with self-doubt notice that it’s there and ask it to sit with you for a moment. You know what it looks like from the sketch that you made. Noticing it is the first and most important step to disarming it. In this moment you are no longer ensnared with your gremlin. You are its spectator. Look it in the face. Take a deep breath – all the way to your stomach. Slowly exhale from your stomach. Fear is your gremlin’s primary tool. In his book “Taming Your Gremlin” Rick Carson reminds us that most people’s biggest fears are around abandonment, pain and death. Your gremlin will tell you that tensing up against these fears will ease the discomfort when in fact all that does is initiate the discomfort and limit the possibility for intimacy.

What is your gremlin doing as you are maintaining control of your goals? In another article I suggest that if it is really unwieldy give it a virtual drink of something that will pacify it – top shelf whiskey, chamomile tea. Ask yourself during this exercise, “Regarding my goal, what is the consequence of doing nothing.”

If you make habit of noticing your gremlin and co-existing with it as a disciplined creature you will find that you are able to direct it to keep busy while you get what you want. Who would have thought?

The Zen Theory of Change is: I free myself not by trying to be free, but by simply noticing how I am imprisoning myself in the very moment I am imprisoning myself. Start now!

Grow and Prosper

Elaine Love asked:

You can not grow within and stand still in your life. Your personal life, financial life and business life absolutely prosper when you focus on your personal development. Jim Rohn, noted business philosopher, always declared the importance of working harder on yourself than you do on your business.

A major key to living a successful life centers around personal development. Throughout my life whenever I encountered a difficult situation, the cause was always related to my attitude. My feelings about a given situation or the people involved determined the outward results. Negative emotions or feeling out of control about anything in my life invariably led to a negative result. Blaming someone, including yourself, produces negative results. Playing the blame game never produces a positive result. For instance when you are lying awake at night tossing and turning and seething with angry thoughts, the other person sleeps peacefully. In many cases, the object of your distress may not even know a problem exists.

Somehow, even though it may feel difficult, search for the good in every event in your life. A job loss may feel like the end of the world for awhile. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and examine your options. Record numbers of people are starting their own home based business right now. Before their employment status changed, it felt safer to stay with the job even though they were unhappy than to look for something new. The job status change necessitated investigating new options. Sometimes what seems to be devastating at the moment results in a wonderful future.

Jeff’s franchise business collapsed leaving him with over a quarter million of personal debt. After starting his home based business, he paid off the debt and started earning a profit within less than a year. If the franchise had not folded, he would have continued working long hours and he would have remained in the bondage of debt for many years. The end of the franchise terrified him for awhile but later proved to be a blessing in his financial and personal life.

Attitude about the situation makes a tremendous difference. Your internal attitude about an event largely controls the outcome. Examine your emotions and beliefs. Somewhere deep within your mental programming lies the cause of many of your problems as well as the solution. Grow as a person through each event in your life. Do an intense self examination to discover the possible causes which led to the event.

1. Did your childhood programming set a negative tone regarding your deservability of becoming financially successful?
2. How focused were you in the performance of your job or business?
3. How dedicated were you to learning and implementing new ideas in your work?
4. What was your attitude at and about your work?
5. How long did you persevere before you ended the business or job?

How much time and focus do you dedicate on a daily basis toward your personal development? How many books have you read recently on personal development? What cd’s have you listened to in order to expand your thoughts in a positive direction?

When was the last time you masterminded with another positive minded individual? When was the last time you attended a live seminar or even watched a mind expanding DVD? When was the last time you meditated on how to improve your life? What positive affirmations do you write and speak daily?

Growing personally will assist you in growing professionally. Growing as a person improves every aspect of your life. People choose to be around you when you profess and exude a positive attitude.

Natural Ways to Grow Taller

Dr Kingsley Modozie asked:

Majority of persons on earth believe that there is no way to increase the height of their genes leaving them with no option but to get frustrated with their height. That is not the fact. You can find a lot of means you can use to appear taller.

First and foremost, I will like to talk a bit about the way your body grows. Your bones perform a critical function in this. Are you aware that infants have a lot of bones unlike the amount they do when they become adults? It is as a result of the cartilage which majority of your skeletons is made up of. As you grow, your cartilage slowly combines, merges and solidifies to get adult bone. This is the reason why we have little bones unlike the amount kids have. Read on to discover the natural ways to grow taller.

During your puberty stage, cartilage growth plates perform a crucial function in your growth spurts. All through your puberty, they grow longer slowly. When you have reached adulthood, there is no quantity of elongation or workouts that will make them longer. Exercises routines that maintain it can do this for you is nothing but waste of time and cash.

In most instances, some people opt to use bone extending surgery in order to increase their height. Unluckily, surgery is unsafe in variety of ways. It is very hard to see a doctor that is an expert in this and also it aftermath could make your life unbearable. Your bones can break later on after the surgery. Metal plates are added into your legs in order to create a space in-between the bones broken to make your legs appear longer. As time goes on, your bones will develop back jointly; bringing about an increase in height. Meanwhile, the region where the bones joined together can turn not to become fragile. Your bones are liable to break. You also risk nerve danger or paralysis.

Nevertheless, you can find a handful of options for growing taller. Some of the natural ways to grow taller is through exercises and diets. Taking an appropriate diet together with exercises can be efficient in your quest to look taller and remain taller. During your youth period, you should try to workout steady and take diets rich in protein, calcium, amino acids and some other essential nutrients to see that your bones get the nutrient to grow and if you are unable to do this it will result to stunted growth. Likewise, if you keep on ignoring your body in this aspect, it could lead to weakened bones and maybe shrinkage as you get older.

The Grow Coaching Model

Craig Strachan asked:

The GROW model is a coaching model that describes a very simple process that can be followed to help you work towards and to achieve your goals.

Goal

The first step is to understand what your goal is. Understanding your goal gives you a concrete objective towards which you can work, and the freedom to start doing so.

Make your goals SMART – goals that are Simple, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time-based. This removes the pie-in-the- sky aspect of goal setting, and turns them into something that you can actually achieve. Having a goal such as ‘I would like to lose weight’ is difficult to measure and hence difficult to achieve. How about changing it to ‘I would like to lose 5 kg by December 2007′?

Without goals comes a lack of focus, and with no focus it is very easy to drift through life – just living from day to day, wondering why you are not achieving anything in life. How much harder is it to move forward without understanding where you are going?

Reality

The next step is to look at the current reality. Where are you in relation to your goal? Have you almost achieved your goal? Are you a long way away? Do you need to break the goal into smaller, more achievable goals? It may require a detailed and honest analysis of where you are, But having a deep understanding of where you are provides a very solid foundation of understanding what needs to happen.

Options

Once you understand your goal and your reality, the task is to find out how to start to move the reality towards the goal. At this stage in the process, you examine what options are available to you. This is where the planning takes place. There may be a single course of action, or there may be multiple options from which to choose. This is a good opportunity to go into some creative brainstorming, or to perform a SWOT analysis on the various options that are available to you.

Remember that at this stage you are not deciding which are the best options – that is for later. You are simply deciding on what the possible options are.

What

At this stage, we have examined the goal, we know where we are in respect to the goal, and we have examined the various options that we can follow to reach the goal. The final step is to examine the options, and to decide what the best option is to reach your goal. Note that you are not looking at the easiest option, but the best option. IE: which option is going to move you closest towards your goal?

Working the Plan

Working through the GROW model provides a very simple yet powerful framework to support you in achieving your goals. However, the work really happens not in the planning, but in the working of your plan. While working your plan, keep in mind how you are progressing towards your goal. Keeping examining what is and is not working in your plan. What might have seemed as a great option (the WHAT) might not have been the best choice. So try to have the flexibility to make adjustments when it becomes necessary.

Where to use GROW

The GROW model can be used in almost any aspect of your personal or business life, including health, wealth, team goals and career aspirations. Basically, GROW will work anywhere in your life that you are working towards a goal. If you would like to find out more, or to have some assistance working through the GROW model, please give us a call, and we will gladly assist.

Historical Note

There is a lot of uncertainty as to the origins of the GROW model. Several sources cite several different authors. To the best of my knowledge, it was created by Graham Alexander and brought to the fore by Sir John Whitmore

The Highly Unlikely Astral Projection Tips That Work to Make Astral Projection Much Easier

Jamie Alan asked:

There are some Astral Projection tips out there that may seem as though they are really not that important. First rule in spiritual enlightenment or magick, ‘things are never what they seem.’ So these are some of the more highly unlikely Astral Projection tips that will work to make your attempts at projection much easier. So no matter how insignificant they may at first appear, please do not underestimate them.

A great little tip about Astral Projection that most either just do not know or just do not consider at the time. Is that many subjects which would seem so far removed from the Astral Projection endeavor in reality play a large role in whether or not you succeed. The tip that many overlook is more often than not the only thing holding back your first time entrance to the astral plane. Food and Drink!

Thats right! What you eat and drink have a direct relation to the art and practice of your astral projection. If you are serious about it then you must be made aware of the foods that tend to ‘ground’ the consciousness into the body. I will name a few of them hear.

Meats with lots of fat. Meat in general, unless we are talking birds and fish. Even those are still meats but if you must eat meat those are less Peppers. In fact anything spicy is not recommended. I cannot think of any reason for this but throughout my life of studying this subject, time and time again all the trusted resources always say the same thing. Nothing Spicy. Nuts are considered as another ‘grounding’ source working against Astral travel. Peanuts in particular are considered the worst of all the nuts but nuts in general are not good. Alcohol is another really bad anti-agent which works against an attempt at an Astral voyage. It has been widely known and accepted by the True Occult Community that in some instances small amounts of alcohol may be ingested for a positive purpose. But in truth Being Drunk is considered the Menstruum (causing your aura to bleed) for the Astral Plane. It wears heavily on the aura and drives away good energies that would be helpful in achieving Astral Projections. Tobacco is also. (though not as bad,) up there with alcohol and spices. The smoke from tobacco produces a very large number of toxins and releases them directly into your bloodstream. Although ideally you are suggested to fast for a period of time before you make your initial attempts at Astral Projections this may not be viable for some people. Here are some really good foods that are recommended for projections: Raw egg, fruits and vegetables, water or juice. Now these are what is recommended in the very beginning, for a novice. Yet once you have become familiar and are a regular to projecting then you may eat what ever it is you like. Now, when you are at that point you will still notice the effects from the negative foods mentioned above.

The reason I posted these are that they may hold a strong key against your efforts. If you can continue to practice and throw out all the bad foods and drinks you will notice a major improvement. So again these are the highly unlikely Astral Projection tips that are probably slowing you down. In the very beginning they are very important to stay away from.
